A key theme this year was ‘disruption’, with the first plenary, as well as other sessions, covering new technology and the need for adaptive thinking. Points raised in various discussions included the need to focus on what technology was benefiting patients, avoiding ‘hype’ and what actually constitutes innovation.

The need for transparency and patient involvement was also highlighted, including transparent pricing, health technology assessments (HTA) and definitions of value. Patient organizations were vocal, discussing what patients want for a therapy and how key stakeholders such as payers can balance affordability versus value.
