A new multicenter study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, finds that surveillance programs for patients with a high risk of developing pancreatic cancers can help to detect precancerous conditions and cancers earlier, when they are more treatable. Once patients begin to present symptoms of pancreatic cancer, it is likely that the cancer is already at a later stage, as it is uncommon for this disease to be detected at stage I.
