The new Chronic Kidney Disease Masterset adds to its series of integrated multisource real-world datasets developed in collaboration with Aetion to advance research in this area.

HealthVerity recently announced the launch of the HealthVerity Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Masterset, adding to its growing suite of expertly curated real-world datasets developed in collaboration with Aetion. The new CKD Masterset comprises real-world data (RWD) from multiple sources, including claims, labs, and electronic medical records (EMR), integrated and synchronized into one comprehensive resource. The aim is to accelerate real-world evidence (RWE) insights in CKD to enable researchers to better track disease progression, understand patients outcomes and develop new treatments and interventions.

HealthVerity is deploying its IPGE (Identity, Privacy, Governance and Exchange) Platform, in collaboration with Aetion, to compile a suite of integrated and synchronized multisource RWD Mastersets. The platform’s unified technology and RWD ecosystem enable the accurate identification of distinct, privacy-protected identities across different sources of data, allowing researchers to access more complete and detailed longitudinal patient records without the fragmentation that can occur with traditional patient tokenization approaches. Others Mastersets provided by HealthVerity include the Maternal Outcomes Masterset and the Provider Diversity Index.

A progressive condition, CKD impacts 1 in 7 adults in the US and is a leading cause of death. To slow the progression of CKD, which is currently without cure, researchers need to understand the patient journey. Of the approximately 37 million people affected by CKD, 90% do not even know they have the disease until it has already advanced to a late stage.

“CKD is complicated by several comorbid conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension and heart disease,” explained Reyna Klesh, VP of Data Products and Innovation at HealthVerity, “By integrating the revealing aspects of the journey for patients at every stage of CKD, in a HIPAA [Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act] compliant format, we help researchers better understand disease progression to develop effective treatments for the millions of people affected by the disease.”

The new CKD Masterset comprises RWD from approximately 7 million individuals with a confirmed CKD medical diagnosis or lab result. It incorporates synchronized and standardized, de-duplicated data from commercial, Medicare and Medicaid claims, laboratory results and EMR from the vast HealthVerity US healthcare and consumer data ecosystem. The closed-claims data provides a longitudinal view of patient journey whilst EMR data provides valuable clinical observations such as body mass index, height, weight and smoking status, which are all risk factors for disease worsening over time. Lab data is also included to provide critical results for understanding what stage of CKD the patient is in, determining kidney function and the extent of kidney damage. Finally race, ethnicity and mortality data are captured to generate a holistic overview of the disease.

HealthVerity plan to continue adding to their Masterset series to profile the most important topics and diseases.
