Collaboration for real-world demonstration of AI for medical imaging: Inselspital Bern to install Bayer’s new Calantic™ Digital Solutions suite of AI-enabled digital radiology applications.

Bayer has recently announced it will be working with Inselspital, the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, to jointly generate real-world clinical evidence to demonstrate the benefits of using artificial intelligence (AI) for medical imaging. For the collaboration, Bayer’s new medical imaging platform Calantic™ Digital Solutions, containing a suite of AI-enabled digital radiology applications that aid diagnosis and improve productivity, will be installed in Inselspital’s radiology suite in the coming months.

“AI has the potential to be a game-changer in healthcare and medical imaging,” stated Roland Wiest, Deputy Director, Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, Inselspital and the University of Bern, and head of several educational initiatives in radiology to enable a wider use of AI-based technologies.

Bayer is driving innovation in medical imaging with the development of Calantic™ Digital Solutions. Its AI-enabled apps are designed to enhance prioritization, lesion detection and quantification, as well as general productivity through automation of routine tasks and measurements. The improved radiology suites’ workflow will free up time for radiologists and their teams, supporting them at critical steps throughout their patients’ diagnosis and treatment journeys. The AI-powered increased throughput of radiological examinations has the potential to address the growing demand of aging populations, combined with a shortage of trained radiologists.

“As AI is making its way into radiology, we are looking forward to joining forces with renowned experts such as Inselspital Bern to drive its adoption in clinical practice,” commented Gerd Krueger, President, Radiology, Bayer. “Building on deep medical expertise across a multitude of diagnostic and therapeutic areas at Bayer, AI will continue to be a significant focus for us to help transform patient care.”

Bayer and Inselspital Bern have signed a subscription license agreement under which Inselspital will introduce Bayer’s new medical imaging platform into its Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, with Bayer providing installation, configuration and training services for the platform and its applications. The partners will then work together to gather real-world clinical data to demonstrate the benefits of innovating using AI for medical imaging with the Calantic™ Digital Solutions platform.

“We are pleased to work with Inselspital Bern, one of the top university hospitals in Switzerland and worldwide, on offering digital solutions that can help improve productivity and patient outcomes,” said Lucia Fernandez Lopez, Head of Digital Solutions Business EMEA, Radiology, Bayer. “We are looking forward to working together with this renowned institution to prove the value of Calantic Digital Solutions to radiology and the entire health system.”
