A collaborative study looking at the electronic records from the Indiana Network for Patient Care (IN, USA) has revealed that a third of people in Indiana do not reach a healthy level of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, despite being on statins medications. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US. For those who are at high risk for cardiovascular disease events, such as a heart attacks or stroke, they are prescribed statins to reduce their levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and overall risk of cardiovascular disease.
