In a new systematic literature review, published in Applied Health Economics and Health Policy, researchers affiliated with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE; London and Manchester, UK) have assessed the potential of using the sandbox approach in the context of health technology assessment (HTA). Regulatory ‘sandboxes’, as concepts, were first considered in 2015 in the context of the financial technologies sector; they are ‘safe spaces’ for testing new methodologies and processes related to innovative technologies.
