To launch Virtual ISPOR 2020 (18–20 May), the society held a pre-conference plenary session dedicated to exploring roles for health economics and outcomes research during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following her participation in this plenary session, we had the pleasure of catching up with Nuria Oliver (Data-Pop Alliance, NY, USA) to gain her insight into some of the potential roles mobile and app technologies could play in the response against COVID-19.

Oliver is an expert in artificial intelligence, serving as Chief Data Scientist at the Data-Pop Alliance, Chief Scientific Advisor at the Vodafone Institute (Berlin, Germany), Co-Founder of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (Alicante, Spain) and Commissioner on artificial intelligence and COVID-19 to the President of the Valencian Region in Spain.
