Patients with chronic diseases and psychiatric diseases at a higher risk of death

A new study carried out by researchers from the University of Oxford (UK) demonstrated that patients who are suffering from chronic noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and respiratory diseases with a psychiatric comorbidity, are at a higher risk of death. The findings have been published in PLOS Medicine. Currently, it is estimated that 40 million deaths annually are a result of these noncommunicable diseases. Researchers utilized national registers of electronic health records (EHRs) from Sweden. The EHRs included individuals born between 1932−1995, utilized to investigate over 1 million patients diagnosed with chronic lung diseases, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes....
