With the ISPOR 2023 conference (May 7–10, 2023, Boston, USA) only a few weeks away, the Society has announced details of the much-anticipated plenary sessions. Here we provide details of the three key plenaries and what to expect.

Plenary 1

Global Focus on Affordability and Inward Investment – What Does it Mean for HEOR?

Date and time: Monday 8th May, 8:30am – 9:45am

Moderator: Samantha Roberts, Chief Executive, National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE), UK and Conference Co-Chair

Speakers: John M O’Brien, National Pharmaceutical Council, Washington, DC, USA

Overview: Governments worldwide are increasingly implementing measures, such as price negotiations and rebate reductions, to manage the affordability of medicines and encourage inward investment by life science companies. This session will explore the role of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) in the affordability and investment debate, looking at the global implications of new policies and their impact on the current and future pricing and access of medicines.


Plenary 2

AI Wants to Chat With You: Accept or Ignore?

Date and time: Tuesday 9th May, 8:30am – 9:45am

Overview: The past few years have seen a seismic shift in the interest and potential application of artificial intelligence (AI). This session will delve into the potential impact of AI on HEOR, with the speakers providing their perspectives on the anticipated changes as AI continues to gain traction in healthcare.

Issues and Solutions When Estimating Treatment Effects Using US Electronic Health Record Data

Date and time: Wednesday 10th May, 11:30am – 12:45pm

Overview: Real-world data captured through electronic health records (EHR) is being more broadly utilized in many avenues of real-world evidence generation, including claims-based studies in estimating causal treatment effects. However, several issues need to be addressed for EHR data to fully support critical healthcare decisions. The session aims to provide insights into addressing these challenges in utilizing EHR data for healthcare research.
