This October, the FDA has announced national plans to ensure millions of Americans gain access to hearing aid technology at a reduced cost. The regulator has intended to establish a new category of hearing devices, known as over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids. This proposed plan could provide cost-effective, alternative hearing aids for individuals. Initially, time spent on both medical examinations and fittings would be reduced, as the devices can be sold without audiologist intervention.
