Administrative claims uncover predictors influencing likelihood of diabetic emergencies

New findings published in JAMA Network Open have highlighted the various predictors that appeared impactful in affecting the chance of two types of diabetic emergencies occurring, diabetic ketoacidosis or hyperglycemic crisis. The research team, from Mayo Clinic Rochester (MN, USA), conducted the retrospective cohort study with the aim of identifying patients at risk of an onset of either diabetic emergency.  Overall, the study involved approximately 20,000 individuals with Type 1 diabetes and 795,000 individuals with Type 2. Within this cohort, data originating from the OptumLabs Data Warehouse (MA, USA) were utilized, including the real-world evidence of administrative claims and laboratory results.
